Aman Sâki trio energizes Ottoman music straight into the 21st century with a lively blend of rhythms and melodies firmly rooted in the traditions of makam.

Makam is the modal music system common to Persian, Arabic, and other Middle Eastern cultures.   The goal of the performer in this music is to evoke a range of feelings in the listener.

The interplay among musicians, the role of improvisation, and the complex rules of the repertoire inspire the musicians of Aman Sâki to bridge their diverse musical backgrounds and create innovative, mesmerizing performances that range from the melancholy to the exuberant.

The Aman Sâki trio presents engaging concerts as well as invaluable lecture demonstrations on the history and performance of Ottoman art and folk music.  Their folk repertoire spans the eastern Mediterranean, from modern Greece and the urban music of Istanbul, to the gypsy villages of Eastern Thrace in modern Turkey.

Audiences both familiar and unversed with these repertoires consistently show delighted surprise with the vibrant performances of Aman Sâki.
